What is Pedorthics?

The design, manufacture, fit and modification of shoes and related foot appliances as prescribed for amelioration of painful and/or disabling conditions of the foot and limb.

The Pedorthics department is part of the Division of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Staffed with three full-time, board-certified pedorthists trained to measure and fit shoes and inserts for anyone, this department meets the special needs of patients with diabetes, amputations and deforming arthritis.

A fully functioning Fabrication Lab that manufactures custom prescription shoe orthoses and bracing is available for our patients. A doctor's prescription is required for these items.

The Retail Footwear Center carries shoes, shoe supplies, various bandaging and wound care supplies, pads and foot-related products not found at other local stores. Although an appointment is required to see a pedorthist, the Footwear Center is open for walk-ins during regular business hours.
