General Surgery Residency Program
The Department of Surgery residency education program Vision Statement:
Be a center of educational excellence for surgical residents, which includes extensive experiential surgical opportunities.
Be data and evidence driven.
Integrate core competencies in an optimal and ethical surgical practice environment.
Become a national leader in the development and conduct of medical research applied to the surgical experience

The five-year, fully accredited Texas A&M-Scott & White General Surgery Residency Program was established in the 1920s at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas.
We have five categorical and one non-designated preliminary first-year residency positions offered through the National Residency Matching Program.
General Surgery rotations are scheduled exclusively at Scott & White Memorial Hospital and Olin E. Teague Veterans' Center. In-house call is limited to the Emergency Trauma Service (ETS). (See Curriculum)
The average chief resident completes the program with approximately 1,200 cases as surgeon. Resident research – both bench and clinical – is available and encouraged. Approximately 50 percent of program alumni have pursued fellowships. All residents the last five years have passed the qualifying and certifying examinations of the American Board of Surgery (View 2003-2007 results
