A Culture of Teamwork

A systematic approach to care is one reason why Scott & White’s Trauma Center ranks high among such programs across the country. Our multidisciplinary, integrated  team includes nurses, anesthesiologists, physicians who specialize in intensive care medicine, and other specialized healthcare staff, as well as social workers and administrative personnel. Each member of the team plays a vital role in patient care.

Scott & White’s integrated team played a crucial part in caring for the 10 military personnel transferred to Scott & White’s Trauma Center during the Fort Hood tragedy in 2009.

“I’m not sure that this could have been handled as efficiently or as smoothly in a trauma center that is not as ‘integrated’ as we are. Most of the people who work here don’t realize that unlike most other trauma centers in the country, and certainly in the state, we work together at Scott & White in a different way,” says Roy Smythe, MD, chairman, Department of Surgery.
