Robot-Assisted Prostate Surgery: Preparing for Surgery

  1. Drink clear fluids for a 24-hour period prior to the date of your surgery
  2. Starting at 3 p.m. on the day prior to surgery, begin taking the GoLytely bowel preparation as instructed. The entire 4-liter container should be completely finished by 7 p.m.
  3. Nothing by mouth after midnight the night prior to surgery.
  4. Aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, Advil, Alka Seltzer, vitamin E, Ticlid, Coumadin, Lovenox, Celebrex, Voltaren, Vioxx, Plavix and some other arthritis medications can cause bleeding and should be avoided one week prior to the date of surgery (Please contact your surgeon's office if you are unsure about which medications to stop prior to surgery. Do not stop any medication without contacting the prescribing doctor to get their approval.)
  5. On the day before surgery, call 254-724-2003 between 3:30 and 5 p.m. to find out what time to check-in on the day of surgery.
