Message from Dr. Knight

Alfred B. Knight

I want to welcome the superb staff and patients of King's Daughters Hospital to Scott & White Healthcare. This is a historic merger of two great organizations who have served Temple and the surrounding communities for over 100 years each.

We appreciate the challenges and anxious times you have been through over the recent months. We hope that we will be able to show that this merger will enhance care for patients and the evolution to a dedicated Children's Hospital at King's Daughters will be celebrated.

Again, welcome. I look forward to the great things we will build together.

Dr. Alfred B. Knight,
President and CEO, Scott & White Healthcare

History

King's Daughters Hospital was founded in March of 1896 when one kind individual, Annie Sullivan, a devout Presbyterian woman and a member of the non-denominational International Order of the Whatsoever Circle of the King's Daughters and Sons, provided a clean, warm room and a doctor for a sick man who couldn't afford medical care. The hospital's current location, 1901 SW H. K. Dodgen Loop, is the fourth for this historic Temple institution.

In February 2009, King's Daughters Hospital board of directors began exploring the possibility of merging with Scott & White. On March 31, 2009, the King's Daughters Hospital board of trustees approved the proposal by Scott & White to take over the facility and eventually transform it into a regional children's hospital.

Respecting the heritage and history of the institution, a transition has started which will maintain the King's Daughters Hospital name, and will continue it in a mission of healthcare for some of our most precious possessions...our children. King's Daughters Hospital staff members are now part of the Scott & White Healthcare family, and the future is very bright.
