ACL Injury

An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is one of the most common injuries among high-performance athletes — such as soccer, basketball and football players. And they’re even more common among female athletes.

Tips to Prevent an ACL Injury

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation suggests the following exercises to help reduce the risk of sprain or tear in your ACL:

  • 3D Matrix Lunge
  • Side-Lying Hip Rotation
  • Side-Lying Hip Abduction
  • Gluteal Bridging
  • Gluteal Bridging with March
  • One-Legged Hops
  • Knee Extension
  • Knee Flexion

Proper Landing Technique

  • Land on the balls of your feet
  • Land with your knees flexed (knees over feet, not collapsing into knock knees)
