Scott & White to open hospital on Hurd Regional Medical Center Campus in 2014

- New date, scope for Hill Country hospital -

MARBLE FALLS, TX - Scott & White Healthcare announced today it plans to open the hospital bed tower on the Wayne and Eileen Hurd Regional Medical Center Campus by the end of 2014, sooner than recently projected.

"We are pleased that we are able to move forward with the first phase of the hospital bed tower ahead of schedule by almost two years," said Scott & White President and CEO Robert W. Pryor, M.D. "The accelerated timetable reflects progress on construction to date and responsiveness to community demand for our acute care hospital."

The first phase of the Scott & White hospital will consist of 44 beds, with plans to provide infrastructure to accommodate expansion to more than 80 beds. The facility will offer multispecialty services including primary care, cardiology, general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, ophthalmology, gastrointestinal and pain management. Design and construction are expected to take about 24 months.

"As a non-profit health care organization, it is essential that Scott & White have the community’s ongoing loyalty and support over the next two years and beyond," continued Dr. Pryor. “"We rely on donors to 'jump-start' major capital investments ensuring the success and sustainability of this project."

A physician clinic serves as the "anchor" for the Hurd Regional Medical Center Campus, named for Hill Country visionaries Wayne and Eileen Hurd. Construction of the clinic is scheduled for completion next spring and is an important step in recruiting the physicians that will deliver outpatient care while the new hospital is built.

Scott & White partnered with the City of Marble Falls and Llano Memorial Health System in 2007 on plans to build a major medical center. The campus is near the intersection of U.S. 281 and TX 71, strategically positioned near the water tower and sewer lines serviced by the City of Marble Falls. A groundbreaking ceremony in November 2011 signaled the official start of construction on the project.
