John L. Simms to retire as Scott & White Hospital - Brenham CEO
BRENHAM, Texas – Scott & White today announced the retirement of John L. Simms, chief executive officer of Scott & White Hospital – Brenham, effective July 31, 2012. Plans are being finalized for the hospital’s leadership transition.
Simms has served Washington County and the medical complex that is now Scott & White Hospital-Brenham for 33 years. He began his career as CEO of Bohne Memorial Hospital and led the transition establishing the former Trinity Medical Center, overseeing the growth of numerous hospital expansion projects, technological advances, physician development, medical office buildings, a Foundation, and a long-term care facility. He has also been an integral part of the leadership team aligning and coordinating operations with the Scott & White College Station/Brenham region.
"We owe John Simms a debt of thanks for the instrumental role he has played in helping to bring Scott & White to Brenham and Washington County," said Patricia Currie, chief operating officer for Scott & White Healthcare. "He graciously consented to stay with us through our merger with Trinity to insure a smooth transition and we greatly appreciate his demonstrated commitment to health care and this community."

Simms is a member of the Texas Hospital Association’s Council for Policy Development. He previously served as chair of the Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange Board of Directors and trustee of the Texas Hospital Association Board of Directors and the Governor’s Emergency and Trauma Advisory Committee. His plans for retirement include devoting time to his family and church, community service and travel.
