Scott & White Healthcare donates property in Florence to local chamber of commerce
ROUND ROCK, Texas – Scott & White Healthcare – Round Rock has donated a little over 3,000 square feet of space that once held a clinic in Florence, Texas, to the Florence Chamber of Commerce. Before moving in, the Florence Chamber will convert the space into general office space and for community use after making renovations and repairs. They anticipate moving in and opening the building for community events by early June.
"After vacating the space in 2007 which once held a clinic, we felt the Chamber could make better use of it; making this donation was an opportunity to share surplus resources during challenging economic times that have affected everyone," said Colleen Sundquist, regional administrator for the Scott & White Healthcare – Round Rock Region.
"We’re extremely grateful to Scott & White for donating this space to us," said Robert Chambers, president of the Florence Chamber of Commerce. "The chamber is hopeful we can put it to good community use which is our goal. We’re going to have our own offices there, but the primary use will be community use for local residents to have for birthday parties, reunions, or other such events."

Briefly called Brooksville, the community dates from the early 1850s. Florence is a friendly little town nestled on the edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country. We are located on Highway 195 between Killeen and Georgetown with the lovely Salado Creek winding through. The name change came about with the opening of the post office in 1857. The first postmaster was from Florence, Alabama although Florence Brooks, the daughter of the town's first merchant is also considered to be the source of the name. After the Civil War, wheat, cotton and cattle were the town's economic mainstays, and by the 1890s the town was prospering with the stores, mills, hotels, and lodges typical of a central Texas town on the rise.
