Scott & White breaks ground on new clinic in Copperas Cove

- Clinic to provide primary care closer to home -

COPPERAS COVE, Texas – Scott & White Healthcare announced plans to build a clinic in Copperas Cove during a groundbreaking ceremony today with city officials. The new 14,973 square-foot clinic, to be located at 239 W. Hwy 190, will be the first Scott & White Clinic in the city.

"Getting access to primary care that is closer to home for our patients continues to be a goal in delivering low-cost high quality care," said Michael Reis, MD, chairman of family medicine for Scott & White Healthcare. "The Central Texas area continues to grow each year, and with this new clinic, we can be ready to meet the needs of the community."

Doctors are the key to help keeping communities healthy and strong. Since 2007, local doctors Raymond J. Harrison, MD, and Karen P. Harrison, MD, of the Harrison Clinic have served the Copperas Cove community’s primary care needs. This husband and wife team will now join Scott & White to continue providing both quality primary care for patients with complex medical problems, as well as preventative medicine. Before establishing their private practice in Copperas Cove, they previously worked for Scott & White and taught at the Texas A&M School of Medicine.

"We have always had a very close working relationship with Scott & White and joining their network is a natural progression of that partnership," said Dr. Raymond Harrison, medical director for the Scott & White Clinic - Copperas Cove. "We have a large retired population in our area with complex medical issues, including many disabled veterans. Being an integral part of the Scott &White network will provide us with many more resources in order to deliver the best care possible for our patients."

Dr. Harrison has noted his special connection with local veterans after having previously served as an AH-1 Cobra pilot during front line combat in two wars.

Dr. Karen Harrison, primary care physician at Scott & White Clinic - Copperas Cove, already has a personal connection to the community. She grew up in Copperas Cove and graduated from Copperas Cove High School.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to take care of my community and I am excited to partner with Scott and White to bring a new state of the art primary care clinic to Copperas Cove," said Dr. Harrison.  "It has been my goal, since I completed my residency, to take care of community I grew up in."

The clinic features 24 exam rooms and two treatment rooms offering services that include: primary care, women’s health (ob/gyn), as well as on-site x-ray and laboratory services.

The new clinic was designed by Michael W. Marrs Architects and built by the Structura Incorporated.
