Scott & White Healthcare named lead sponsor of BCS Marathon

- Race date set for Sunday, December 9, 2012 -

COLLEGE STATION, TX – The BCS Marathon has named Scott & White Healthcare the presenting sponsor of the 2012 run in support of community wellness and children’s charities. Event organizers also announced the launch of the Scott & White Health Plan Kids’ Marathon, a one-mile run on Saturday, December 8.

The Scott & White BCS Marathon marks the second year for the local race. In 2011, more than 1,500 runners representing 15 different states registered for the 26.2 and 13.1-mile event. Race organizers expect an even larger turnout this year. "We had to cap our inaugural run last year, the demand was so great," said Race Director Chris Field. "We’re prepared for another enthusiastic response from the racing community and expect to double the number of participants."

Scott & White supported the marathon last year as the sole provider of on-site medical care. "Our leadership as presenting sponsor of this year’s race reflects Scott & White’s ongoing commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles in our community," said William Rayburn, MD, chief medical officer, Scott & White Healthcare College Station. "We are thrilled to have a more expansive role in the race."

With the economic impact of the 2011 marathon estimated at $400,000, race organizers forecast a banner year for both fundraising and an infusion into the local economy. Scott & White concurs that the race is an important addition to the community on various fronts. "Not only does this event promote wellness, but it provides funds for charities serving children, while also stimulating our area businesses," said Jason Jennings, chief executive officer, Scott & White Healthcare College Station. "We are excited to be a partner in this effort."

The launch of the Scott & White Health Plan Kids’ Marathon represents an expansion of the larger race, aimed at attracting a younger group of runners. "This event is committed to promoting wellness at a young age," said Cambi Bruegger, regional director, Scott & White Health Plan. The Scott & White Health Plan Kids’ Marathon will be held in conjunction with a fall running program offered at elementary schools in Bryan and College Station.

Registration for the 2012 race opens May 15th. For more information visit
