A Special Kind of Caring

"After the loss of my husband I felt at times I was going crazy. My world was turned upside down. I am thankful for the grief support group and your special memorial service. I don't feel so alone anymore. You were there when I needed you. Thank you."

– Wife of a hospice patient

Grieving after the death of someone you love is normal, yet often difficult. People are better able to cope with and manage grief when they have appropriate information and understand how it affects their lives.

Support Groups

Our bereavement support services help people to realize they are not alone in their struggles. Scott & White Hospice also provides educational information for participants about the grief process.

Scott & White Grief Support Groups

Scott & White Hospice offers support groups, educational programs and special services to celebrate the lives of loved ones. Groups are regularly held in Temple, Killeen and Waco.  View upcoming group meetings.

Grief management groups are also available once a week for four consecutive weeks to a maximum of six participants. For more information, contact Bereavement Coordinator Terry Jackson at 254-724-4090.

A Tea to Remember

This is a special memorial gathering of family and friends whose loved ones were served by our hospice. The "Tea" is a time for guests to fellowship with our staff as we remember those whose lives meant so much to us. It is held three times annually.

Individual Counseling

One-on-one grief counseling is available. We also refer individuals to appropriate counseling resources.

Special Support Groups and Programs

Specially designed programs for churches, assisted living or nursing home residents and staff are available in order to meet their unique needs.

Jamie's Place

Jamie's Place is a safe place where children can go to express their feelings and learn more about coping with the loss of a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. Because death is not a subject frequently discussed with them, children sometimes have difficulty coping with their feelings after a loved one dies.

At Jamie's Place, children can learn how to deal with their sadness and talk about their fears and concerns that accompany the death of a loved one. Meeting others their age who are going through similar experiences often comforts children. Jamie’s Place grief groups for children are offered free of charge. Grief groups are offered at local schools as well as on a weekday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. Parents and children share a meal and then divide into children and adult groups for age appropriate activities and discussions.

The Miles of Smiles Club

In addition to bereavement support, this club is a social outing facilitated by our volunteer coordinator. Participants laugh, meet new friends and eat together while enjoying occasional special programs and volunteer activities. Those attending are encouraged to bring a covered dish or something from the deli. Bring a friend and enjoy!
