Speech Therapy Services

Speech-language pathologists, also called speech therapists, assess, diagnose and treat disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing and fluency.

Patients who have recently suffered a stroke or traumatic brain injury are oftenideal candidates for speech therapy. Patients with the following conditions may also qualify:

  • Parkinson's disease
  • Motor neuron disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Huntington's disease
  • Cancer of the head, neck and throat
  • Voice problems

Scott & White Home Care’s speech therapists develop an individualized plan of care which is tailored to each patient’s needs. We encourage input from patient and family in goal setting. For individuals with little or no speech capability, the therapist may select alternative communication methods, including automated devices.

Our speech therapists also teach individuals how to strengthen muscles or use compensatory strategies to swallow without choking or inhaling food or liquid.

Family Education

We never underestimate the value of family involvement. Our therapists educate caregivers on communication disorders and swallowing issues and how to cope with the stress and misunderstanding that often accompany them. We help caregiversidentify and change behavior patterns that impede communication and treatment while demonstrating techniques to use at home.
