Occupational Therapy Services
Physicians should consider offering occupational therapy for patients coping with a mentally or physically disabling condition.
Occupational therapists help patients improve their ability to perform tasks. Employed treatments allow patients to develop, recover, or maintain activities of daily living. The occupational therapists of Scott & White Home Care help clients not only to improve their basic motor functions and cognitive abilities, but also to compensate for permanent loss of function. The goal is to help clients have independent, productive, and satisfying lives.
- Home safety inspections to improve function or prevent injury
- Teaching patients how to perform daily tasks (such as cooking and personal care) in consideration of the patient’s current ability level
- Evaluation of need for adaptive equipment. Adaptive equipment is a device to assist with completing activities of daily living, like reachers and sock aides
- Training patients how to use adaptive equipment if needed
At every opportunity, our occupational therapists encourage family involvement in the patient’s therapy. Caregivers and patients contribute to setting goals for the patient. Caregivers receive information on how to reinforce the skills or exercises taught by the occupational therapist. Family members will also learn how to use the adaptive equipment.
