Veronica Piziak, MD, PhD
Director, Endocrinology Division

Dr. Piziak is a Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, Director of the Division of Endocrinology at Scott & White, and principal physician for the Diabetes Education Center. She is well known throughout the world in her primary care work on Diabetes, Lipid disorders and Osteoporosis.

Lynn brings over 25 years of certified diabetes experience to the Diabetes Education Center, working with pediatrics, adult care, dialysis, hospital and clinic patients. She co-developed the first Diabetes Education Program at Scott & White in 1989, one of the first nationally certified programs in the State of Texas. And she knows how important it is for patients to make, and sustain, life changes to manage their condition.

Barbara received her B.S. in nursing from Lutheran Medical School of Nursing in St. Louis, MI, and has been a Scott & White Diabetes Educator for over 25 years. She has educated thousands of patients about their health and the importance of disease prevention through behavior changes. At the Diabetes Education Center, Barbara teaches people about diabetes, conducts diagnostics tests as a member of the Endocrinology team, works with patients with insulin pumps and helps run the Diabetes Support group started in 2008.

Raynelle Shelley, MS, RD, LD, BC-ADM, CDE
Certified Diabetes Educator

Raynelle Shelley is both a Certified Diabetes Educator and Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Manager with a Masters in nutrition. She has been with Baylor Scott & White Health since 2011 working with adults on their nutrition and exercise while helping them understand the relationship between those lifestyle aspects and their diabetes medications. Raynelle is a certified insulin pump trainer and certified to place continuous glucose monitors. Most importantly, she is an educator who excels in group education environments as well one-on-one appointments. Although she sees a variety of nutrition related conditions, diabetes is her area of passion with a personal mission to help people with diabetes live a quality life. Her motto is "all foods fit" and is able to start where patients are in their self care.

Julie Paff, RD, LD, CDE

Julie Paff, RD, LD, CDE is a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian with more than 35 years professional experience, including certification as a pump trainer. She sees patients for diabetes education and nutrition counseling needs, and guides her patients to live healthier through lifestyle changes to manage diabetes, weight, or other medical conditions. For diabetes education, patients are seen with a physician referral in group classes or in one-on-one sessions, which address diet management, exercise recommendations, medication management and home blood glucose monitoring. Julie believes that all persons with diabetes can lead a healthy life with diabetes. She also sees patients for nutrition counseling (also called medical nutrition therapy) with a physician order. Conditions that are shown to improve with diet and lifestyle changes include diabetes, pre-diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, weight management, low body weight, Celiac disease, GI conditions, dysphagia, and adult failure to thrive conditions with unplanned weight loss.
