Alternate Therapies for Renal Pelvis & Ureter Cancer
Your Integrated Care Team may recommend one or more alternate therapies for your renal pelvis and ureter cancer if you are not a good candidate for traditional treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
In some cases, alternate therapies may be recommended as salvage therapies for patients whose cancer has returned.
In this procedure, your physician will burn the base of the tumor in your renal pelvis or ureter with electricity.
Uteroscopic Laser Ablation
In this procedure, your physician will direct an intense beam of light at your tumor to destroy the cancerous cells.
Your body’s natural defense system attacks bacteria, viruses and cancer cells. With immunotherapy, your own immune defenses are used to attack your renal pelvis and ureter cancer.
Immunotherapy for renal pelvis and ureter cancer in most cases uses the Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccine (BCG), which is similar to the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. Once injected, BCG attaches to the lining of your renal pelvis or ureter; your own immune cells fight both the germ and the tumor.
