Treating Adrenal Gland Tumors

Our Tumor Board Sets Us Apart

As a patient at Scott & White, in addition to having a highly experienced Integrated Care Team, you'll also benefit from the expertise of the Scott & White Tumor Board.

Led by senior staff, our multidisciplinary, collaborative board of endocrine cancer experts not only discuss standard approaches to care, they also formulate patient-specific treatment plans. This treatment planning approach helps ensure you receive the highest quality, individualized care.

If you’re diagnosed with an adrenal gland tumor, we have the experts to help you. Our physicians are setting the standard for adrenal gland tumor care. We have world-renown surgeons here who develop safer, quicker surgical procedures. At Scott & White, we have the best of the best in endocrine surgery and all modalities of care for your adrenal gland tumor treatment.

If diagnostic tests reveal the presence of a cancerous mass on your adrenal gland, your physician will meet with a group of specialists and subspecialists to discuss the best treatment plan for you.

A multidisciplinary team of specialists and subspecialists — your Integrated Care Team — is dedicated to providing you the most advanced care available. Working together to ensure a treatment plan designed just for you are:

  • Surgical oncologists and endocrine surgeons
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Medical oncologists
  • Endocrinologists
  • Nuclear medicine physicians
  • Pathologists
  • Geneticists
  • Research physicians
  • Patient coordinator
  • Members of Tumor Registry and Oncology Social Work

The members of your Integrated Care Team serve as advisors for your care. They collaborate with one another throughout the course of your treatment at Scott & White.

Your Integrated Care Team meets in a committee called a Tumor Board to discuss your specific case. After they determine the best course of treatment for you, your lead physician will talk with you about the team’s recommendations for treatment options. Together, you and your lead physician will decide which treatment is best for you.

“We have a comprehensive, interdisciplinary cancer treatment program at Scott & White,” says Terry C. Lairmore, MD, Endocrine Surgeon and Chief of Surgical Oncology. Our approach at Scott & White is to explore every treatment option, considering surgical and nonsurgical alternatives. In many cases, your cancer treatment will include a combination of approaches.

Following active treatment, your oncology team will work with you to create the most appropriate follow-up care plan.
