Bone and Joint Institute Construction Highlights

While the Bone and Joint Institute has provided expert care to patients for decades, that care will soon be enhanced and expanded with the construction of a new, stand-alone building on the Temple campus, which will combine all of the orthopedic resources and specialties in one location.
In our new state-of-the-art facility, which is scheduled to open in October of 2013, complete medical, surgical and rehabilitative care will be coordinated and delivered in one location by experts who diagnose and treat disease and injury of the muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons that help our bodies move. Medical and surgical specialists include physiatrists, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, orthopedic surgeons and plastic surgeons.
The new Scott & White Bone and Joint Institute facility will be the first coordinated outpatient orthopedics program in Central Texas and will be a unique medical model, without a comparable center or institute in the region or state. Combining specialties in one location, the new institute will provide improved access, better outcomes and an excellent patient experience.
South Texas Couple Donates to Bone and Joint Institute
Retired South Texas banker Glen E. Roney, and his wife Rita K., have made a $6 million gift to the Scott & White Healthcare Foundation. This substantial and generous gift will enhance the capabilities of the Scott & White Bone and Joint Institute, currently under construction on the Temple campus. In recognition of the gift and the nearly 30 years of service from the couple, Scott & White is naming the new facility the Glen E. and Rita K. Roney Bone and Joint Institute.
The $6 million gift will help Scott & White purchase leading-edge equipment for the new building, establish an endowed chair in the department of orthopaedics, and support the exciting research and education efforts in orthopaedics. $2.5 million of the gift will provide a dollar-for-dollar matching gift challenge for the ongoing Bone and Joint community campaign.
"We feel that it is both an honor and a pleasure to be so closely affiliated with Scott & White," said Mr. Roney. "The orthopaedic department holds incredible promise for the future, and we recognize the need to help open this new facility and provide support to advance musculoskeletal care and innovations at Scott & White."
Rita K. Roney agreed."We hope that our gift will help bring dynamic change to the face of orthopaedic care here in both Texas and across the nation."
