Scott & White Hand Center Offers Unique Multidisciplinary Service to Patients

From cuts and broken fingers to crushed hands and amputations, hand injuries are the most common injuries seen in emergency departments around the country. In addition to trauma, the hand can be affected by congenital defects, arthritis, nerve compressions and a host of other diseases that can cause pain and/or severely limit your ability to perform daily activities.

While Scott & White has provided care for patients with hand problems for decades, the increased need for care led us to further advance our level of services by forming the Scott & White Hand Center.

“Our goal for establishing the Scott & White Hand Center is to remove the barriers than can get between a patient and his or her doctor,” explains Robert A. Weber, MD, Scott & White plastic surgeon and Chief of the Section of Hand Surgery. “At the same time, the Hand Center provides the doctor streamlined access to all of the resources that the entire Scott & White healthcare system has to offer. The result is that we are able to provide cutting edge hand surgery care from a personal physician.”

Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation All Under One Roof

Through an integrated, multidisciplinary approach, the Scott & White Hand Center combines the best of plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, and rehabilitation in one location. The center is staffed by four fellowship-trained hand surgeons, Robert A. Weber, MD, Douglas S. Fornfeist, MD, Wendy L. Parker, MD, PhD, and Charles F. Kallina, MD, MS. In addition, the center employs a specially trained occupational medicine therapist certified in hand rehabilitation.

The advantage of a center such as this is that our patients have access to the expertise of both plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery through a single entry point. By combining resources, we are able to broaden the scope of our practice, and with our expertise in rehabilitation, we have a unique program to offer our patients.
