Other Ways You Can Help

Donating blood is one of the easiest and most profound ways to make an impact on your community. You don't need money or a lot of spare time to be able to make a contribution. You can save up to two lives with just 30-45 minutes of your time!

But sometimes our bodies just aren't designed to donate blood. And that's okay! You can still make an impact on patients' lives without donating blood. Below are eight different ways you can make a difference in your community by helping inform and encourage others to donate in your place.

1. Recruit Others

It sounds so simple because it really is! Personal encouragement from a friend is one of the most effective ways to get someone to donate blood. You can even accompany your friend while he/she donates.

If you recruit two of your friends, not only will you help save the lives of up to four patients, but you'll also receive a free blood donor t-shirt as a thank you for supporting your community! Visit our Promotions page to check out our latest giveaways.

As we want to spread the word about giving blood to those who do not already give regularly, please recruit two donors who have never given or who have not registered to donate in the past six months. Both donors must be recruited in the same month. And don't forget to let us know you recruited two people! Ask your recruits to mention you at the time of registration. E-mail us at bloodcenter@swmail.sw.org Send an e-mail if you cannot pick up your shirt and need us to mail it to you.

2. Join the Hero Response Team

Members of the Hero Response Team help spread the word to the community about blood shortages or special blood donor events by posting signs and sending emails to their place of business, church or school. We'll e-mail or fax you a flyer whenever a need arises. All you have to do is post the flyer in a visible place.

Hero's Helpers meet the first Thursday of every other month to brainstorm upcoming giveaway ideas and monthly themes. Can't make it to the meeting? Don't worry! You can become an e-member. We'll e-mail you some ideas from the meeting so you can brainstorm with us.

5. Become a Sponsor

Each month, a local business sponsor donates free items to give to each donors or to give as a grand prize as a token of appreciation for their life-saving gift. This partnership is a great opportunity to promote your business, particiapte in a life-saving community project and provide a well-deserved recognition to those who give the gift of life.

6. Educate Others

Education is the key to understanding the importance of donating blood. Pass out informational pamphlets to potential donors. Start exposing the next generation of blood donors to donating blood by having Hero come to your classroom to teach about about.

7. Involve Your Work Place

8. Host a Blood Drive

Get your community involved by hosting a blood drive at your place of business, school or church. Our blood mobile travels across Central Texas to make donating blood convenient and easy for donors. Call 877-724-HERO, and we'll help you schedule the most convenient date for your potential donors.

We'll send you a packet with information, tips and flyers to help you spread the word about your blood drive.
