Care After

ExitCare ImageThese instructions give you information on caring for yourself after your procedure. Your doctor may also give you more specific instructions. Call your doctor if you have any problems or questions after your procedure.

HOME CARE

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Do not rub the biopsy area after you pee (urinate). Gently pat the area dry. You can use a bottle filled with warm water (peri-bottle) to clean the area. Gently wipe from front to back.

  • Clean the area using water and mild soap. Gently pat the area dry.

  • Check the biopsy area every day using a mirror. Make sure it is healing.

  • Do not have sex (intercourse) for 3–4 days or as told by your doctor.

  • Avoid exercise (running, biking) for 2–3 days or as told by your doctor.

  • You may shower after the procedure. Avoid bathing and swimming until the stitches (sutures) dissolve and healing is complete.

  • Wear loose cotton underwear. Do not wear tight pants.

  • Keep all follow-up visits with your doctor.

  • Call your doctor to get your test results.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • You have pain that gets worse and is not helped by pain medicine.

  • Your vaginal area becomes puffy (swollen) or red.

  • You have fluid or an abnormally bad smell coming from your vagina.

  • You have a fever.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
