Vaginitis

ExitCare ImageVaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina. It can happen when the normal bacteria and yeast in the vagina grow too much. There are different types. Treatment will depend on the type you have.

HOME CARE

  • Take all medicines as told by your doctor.

  • Keep your vagina area clean and dry. Avoid soap. Rinse the area with water.

  • Avoid washing and cleaning out the vagina (douching).

  • Do not use tampons or have sex (intercourse) until your treatment is done.

  • Wipe from front to back after going to the restroom.

  • Wear cotton underwear.

  • Avoid wearing underwear while you sleep until your vaginitis is gone.

  • Avoid tight pants. Avoid underwear or nylons without a cotton panel.

  • Take off wet clothing (such as a bathing suit) as soon as you can.

  • Use mild, unscented products. Avoid fabric softeners and scented:

  • Feminine sprays.

  • Laundry detergents.

  • Tampons.

  • Soaps or bubble baths.

  • Practice safe sex and use condoms.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • You have belly (abdominal) pain.

  • You have a fever or lasting symptoms for more than 2–3 days.

  • You have a fever and your symptoms suddenly get worse.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch this condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
