Care After

Refer to this sheet in the next few weeks. These instructions provide you with information on caring for yourself after your procedure. Your caregiver may also give you more specific instructions. Your treatment has been planned according to current medical practices, but problems sometimes occur. Call your caregiver if you have any problems or questions after your procedure.

HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • You may be asked to take an antibiotic for several days following the procedure. Take your antibiotics as directed. Finish them even if you start to feel better.

  • Your caregiver will recommend hygiene techniques such as using a soft brush and a specific mouth rinse 2 times per day for about 1 week.

  • Care for your splint as directed.

  • You will need to eat foods that are soft for up to 2 weeks.

  • See your caregiver for follow-up care as directed.

SEEK DENTAL CARE IF:

  • You have a fever.

  • Your pain or swelling does not go away with medicines or as expected.

  • The reimplanted tooth moves out of place.

  • You have any questions or concerns.

  • The splint is broken or comes loose.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
