Stool Examination

Your doctor has ordered a stool exam. These tests are done to detect blood, pus cells, parasites, or abnormal bacteria in stool. Stool samples for blood testing (Hemoccult) may be collected at home and then brought to a doctor's office or lab to be tested. Parasite and culture tests must be done on fresh stool. Collecting the sample may take 2 days. Poop into a clean pan. Then transfer it to the small specimen cup. Bring your specimen in right away after collecting it. Call your caregiver if you want further information about your stool test results.

It is your responsibility to obtain your test results. Ask the lab or department performing the test when and how you will get your results.
