Pleurisy

ExitCare ImagePleurisy is redness, puffiness (swelling), and soreness (inflammation) of the lining of the lungs. It can be hard to breathe and hurt to breathe. Coughing or deep breathing will make it hurt more. It is often caused by an existing infection or disease.

HOME CARE

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Only take antibiotic medicine as directed. Make sure to finish it even if you start to feel better.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • Your lips, fingernails, or toenails are blue or dark.

  • You cough up blood.

  • You have a hard time breathing.

  • Your pain is not controlled with medicine or it lasts for more than 1 week.

  • Your pain spreads (radiates) into your neck, arms, or jaw.

  • You are short of breath or wheezing.

  • You develop a fever, rash, throw up (vomit), or faint.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
