Platelet Antibody Detection

This is a blood test that determines if you have an immune destruction of the platelets. Platelets are an important part of the blood clotting process. Platelets can be destroyed by antibodies that are created by your own body. This is a problem in which the body has made a mistake and is creating antibodies against parts of your own normal blood that are necessary for the clotting process.

PREPARATION FOR TEST

No preparation or fasting is necessary.

NORMAL FINDINGS

Ranges for normal findings may vary among different laboratories and hospitals. You should always check with your doctor after having lab work or other tests done to discuss the meaning of your test results and whether your values are considered within normal limits.
