Partial Thromboplastin Time

This is a blood test which measures how long it takes for your blood to clot. This test also measures how well heparin therapy is working to thin your blood. Heparin is a medication that is given to make your blood become thinner, and therefore less likely to clot.

No preparation or fasting is necessary.

  • Adults: 22.1-35.1 seconds

MEANING OF TEST

Your caregiver will go over the test results with you and discuss the importance and meaning of your results, as well as treatment options and the need for additional tests if necessary.

It is your responsibility to obtain your test results. Ask the lab or department performing the test when and how you will get your results.
