Palpitations

A palpitation is the feeling that your heartbeat is irregular. It may also feel like your heart is beating faster than normal.

HOME CARE

To help prevent palpitations:

  • Do not drink caffeine or alcohol.

  • Do not eat chocolate.

  • Do not smoke.

  • Reduce stress. Try yoga or meditation.

  • Swim, jogg, or walk.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • There is chest pain.

  • You have shortness of breath.

  • You deveop a very bad headache.

  • You develop dizziness or fainting.

  • You continue to have a fast heartbeat.

  • The palpitations occur more often.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
