Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Myofascial pain (MP) is one of the most common causes of discomfort. This pain may be felt in the muscles. It may come and go. MP always has trigger or tender points in the muscle that will cause pain when pressed.

HOME CARE

  • Learn to do gentle exercise. Stretch.

  • Change your position every hour.

  • Eat a healthy diet.

  • Find ways to relax and lessen stress.

  • Avoid things that make your pain worse.

  • Get a massage by someone trained to release trigger or tender points.

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Get follow-up care as needed.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • Your pain suddenly gets worse.

  • You are not able to move your arms or legs.

  • You have pain in your chest.

  • It is hard to breathe.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
