Mononucleosis Spot Test

This is a blood test which is used to diagnose infectious mononucleosis. Mononucleosis is an illness caused by a virus called the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). This disease usually presents itself with symptoms such as fever, sore throat, swollen glands, and an enlarged spleen.

PREPARATION FOR TEST

No preparation or fasting is necessary.

NORMAL FINDINGS

Negative (less than 1:28 titer)

MEANING OF TEST

Your caregiver will go over the test results with you and discuss the importance and meaning of your results, as well as treatment options and the need for additional tests if necessary.

It is your responsibility to obtain your test results. Ask the lab or department performing the test when and how you will get your results.
