Lipase

This is a blood test that measures Lipase, an enzyme in the blood that will often become elevated if there has been an injury to the pancreas. The Lipase will also be elevated if there are problems with the kidneys such as kidney failure.

PREPARATION FOR TEST

Nothing to eat for 8-12 hours prior to testing with only water permitted.

NORMAL FINDINGS

0-160 Units/L or 0-160 Units/L (SI units)

MEANING OF TEST

Your caregiver will go over the test results with you and discuss the importance and meaning of your results, as well as treatment options and the need for additional tests if necessary.

It is your responsibility to obtain your test results. Ask the lab or department performing the test when and how you will get your results.
