Iron Deficiency Anemia

HOME CARE

  • Ask your doctor or dietician what foods you should eat.

  • Take iron and vitamins as told by your doctor.

  • Eat foods that have iron in them. This includes liver, lean beef, whole-grain bread, eggs, dried fruit, and dark green leafy vegetables.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • You pass out (faint).

  • You have chest pain.

  • You feel sick to your stomach (nauseous) or throw up (vomit).

  • You get very short of breath with activity.

  • You are weak.

  • You are thirstier than normal.

  • You have a fast heartbeat.

  • You start to sweat or become lightheaded when getting up from a chair or bed.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
