Hip Bursitis

ExitCare ImageBursitis is a puffiness (swelling) and soreness of a fluid-filled sac (bursa). This sac covers and protects the joint.

HOME CARE

  • Put ice on the injured area.

  • Put ice in a plastic bag.

  • Place a towel between your skin and the bag.

  • Leave the ice on for 15-20 minutes, 03-04 times a day.

  • Rest the painful joint as much as possible. Move your joint at least 4 times a day. When pain lessens, start normal, slow movements and normal activities.

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Use crutches as told.

  • Raise (elevate) your painful joint. Use pillows for propping your legs and hips.

  • Get a massage to lessen pain.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • Your pain increases or does not improve during treatment.

  • You have a fever.

  • You feel heat coming from the affected area.

  • You see redness and puffiness around the affected area.

  • You have any questions or concerns.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not well or get worse.
