Hepatitis C

ExitCare ImageHepatitis C is a liver infection. It is caused by a germ called hepatitis C virus (HCV). This germ enters the body through blood and other bodily fluids.

HOME CARE

  • Do not drink alcohol.

  • Only take medicines as told by your doctor.

  • Keep all blood test visits as told by your doctor.

  • Do not have sex until your doctor says it is okay.

  • Avoid activities that could put other people in contact with your blood. Do not share a toothbrush, nail clippers, razors, or needles.

  • Follow your doctor's advice to avoid spreading the infection to others.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • You feel very tired or weak.

  • You have a temperature by mouth above 102° F (38.9° C), not controlled by medicine.

  • You do not feel like eating (loss of appetite).

  • You feel sick to your stomach (nauseous) or throw up (vomit).

  • Your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow (jaundice).

  • You bruise or bleed easily.

  • You have any severe problems after treatment.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
