Gastric Tube Replacement

You are having your gastric tube (the tube that goes into the stomach) changed. This is usually a very minor procedure. If medications are prescribed, take them as directed. Only take over-the-counter or prescription medications for pain, discomfort, or fever as directed by your caregiver.

SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL CARE IF:

  • You develop chills, fever, or show signs of generalized illness.

  • You develop bleeding around the tube.

  • Your new tube does not seem to be working properly.

  • You are unable to get feedings into the tube.

  • Your tube comes out for any reason.
