Blood Pressure Record Sheet

Your blood pressure on this visit to the Emergency Department or Clinic is elevated. This does not necessarily mean you have hypertension, but it does mean that your blood pressure needs to be rechecked. Many times blood pressure increases because of illness, pain, anxiety, or other factors.

We recommend that you get a series of blood pressure readings done over a period of about 5 days. It is best to get a reading in the morning and one in the evening. You should make sure you sit and relax for 1 to 5 minutes before the reading is taken. Write the readings down and make a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss the results. If there is not a free clinic or a drug store with blood pressure taking machines near you, you can purchase good blood pressure taking equipment from a drug store, often for less than the price of a physician's office call. Having one in the home also allows you the convenience of taking your blood pressure while you are home and in relaxed surroundings.
