Care After

Refer to this sheet in the next few weeks. These discharge instructions provide you with general information on caring for yourself after you leave the hospital. Your caregiver may also give you specific instructions. Your treatment has been planned according to the most current medical practices available, but unavoidable complications sometimes occur. If you have any problems or questions after discharge, please call your caregiver.


  • Do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours after your test. Your nose and throat were numbed by medicine. If you try to eat or drink before the medicine wears off, food or drink could go into your lungs. After the numbness is gone, you may begin eating a normal diet.

  • For the rest of the first day, eat soft food and drink liquids slowly.

  • The day after the test, you can go back to eating your usual food.

  • Resume normal activities.

  • Keep all follow-up appointments if biopsies were taken.

Finding out the results of your test

Ask when your test results will be ready. Make sure you get your test results.


  • You get lightheaded.

  • You get short of breath.

  • You become faint.

  • You have chest pain.

  • You cough up blood.


  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
