Cluster Headache

Cluster headaches are head pains that are deeply painful. They often occur on one side of the head. Cluster headaches can:

  • Happen often for a few weeks or months, and then go away for a while.

  • Last 15 minutes to 3 hours.

  • Happen at the same time each day.

  • Often happen at night.

  • Happen many times a day.

HOME CARE

During times when you have cluster headaches:

  • Get the same amount of sleep every night, at the same time each night.

  • Avoid alcohol.

  • Stop smoking.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • There are changes in how bad or how often your headaches happen.

  • Your medicines are not helping.

  • You pass out (faint).

  • You become weak or lose feeling (numbness) on one side of your body or face.

  • You see two of everything (double vision).

  • You feel sick to your stomach (nauseous) or throw up (vomit).

  • You are off balance or have trouble talking or walking.

  • You have neck pain or stiffness.

  • You have a fever.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
