Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a type of fat. Your body needs a small amount of cholesterol, but too much can cause health problems. Certain problems include heart attacks, strokes, and not enough blood flow to your heart, brain, kidneys, or feet. You get cholesterol in 2 ways:

  • Naturally.

  • By eating certain foods.

HOME CARE

  • Eat a low-fat diet:

  • Eat less eggs, whole dairy products (whole milk, cheese, and butter), fatty meats, and fried foods.

  • Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole-wheat breads, lean chicken, and fish.

  • Follow your exercise program as told by your doctor.

  • Keep your weight at a healthy level. Talk to your doctor about what is right for you.

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Get your cholesterol checked once a year or as told by your doctor.
