Cholecystitis

Cholecystitis is swelling and irritation (inflammation) of your gallbladder. This often happens when gallstones or sludge build up in the gallbladder. Treatment is needed right away.

HOME CARE

Home care depends on how you were treated. In general:

  • If you were given antibiotic medicine, take it as told. Finish the medicine even if you start to feel better.

  • Only take medicines as told by your doctor.

  • Eat low-fat foods until your next doctor visit.

  • Keep all doctor visits as told.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • You have more pain and medicine does not help.

  • Your pain moves to a different part of your belly (abdomen) or to your back.

  • You have a fever.

  • You feel sick to your stomach (nauseous).

  • You throw up (vomit).

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
