Candidal Vulvovaginitis

ExitCare ImageCandidal vulvovaginitis is an infection of the vagina and vulva. The vulva is the skin around the opening of the vagina. This may cause itching and discomfort in and around the vagina.

HOME CARE

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Do not have sex (intercourse) until the infection is healed or as told by your doctor.

  • Practice safe sex.

  • Tell your sex partner about your infection.

  • Do not douche or use tampons.

  • Wear cotton underwear. Do not wear tight pants or panty hose.

  • Eat yogurt. This may help treat and prevent yeast infections.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • You have a fever.

  • Your problems get worse during treatment or do not get better in 3 days.

  • You have discomfort, irritation, or itching in your vagina or vulva area.

  • You have pain after sex.

  • You start to get belly (abdominal) pain.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
