Bronchospasm

A bronchospasm is when the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs (bronchioles) become smaller. It is hard to breathe when this happens. A bronchospasm can be caused by:

  • Asthma.

  • Allergies.

  • Lung infection.

HOME CARE

  • Do not smoke. Avoid places that have secondhand smoke.

  • Dust your house often. Have your air ducts cleaned once or twice a year.

  • Find out what allergies may cause your bronchospasms.

  • Use your inhaler properly if you have one. Know when to use it.

  • Eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water.

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • You feel you cannot breathe or catch your breath.

  • You cannot stop coughing.

  • Your treatment is not helping you breathe better.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
