ExitCare ImageBlepharitis is a skin problem that makes your eyelids watery, red, puffy (swollen), crusty, scaly, or painful. It may also make your eyes itch. You may lose eyelashes.

HOME CARE

  • Keep your hands clean.

  • Use a clean towel each time you dry your eyelids. Do not share towels or makeup with anyone.

  • Carefully wash your eyelids and eyelashes 2 times a day. Use warm water and baby shampoo or just water.

  • Wash your face and eyebrows at least once a day.

  • Hold a folded washcloth under warm water. Squeeze the water out. Put the warm washcloth on your eyes 2 times a day for 10 minutes, or as told by your doctor.

  • Apply medicated cream as told by your doctor.

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.

  • Avoid wearing makeup until you get better.

  • Follow up with your doctor as told.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • Your pain, redness, or puffiness gets worse.

  • Your pain, redness, or puffiness spreads to other parts of your face.

  • Your vision changes, or you have pain when looking at lights or moving objects.

  • You have a fever.

  • You do not get better after 2 to 4 days.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
