Bedbugs

ExitCare ImageBedbugs are tiny bugs that live in and around beds. They come out at night and bite people lying in bed. Bedbug bites rarely cause a medical problem. The bites do cause red, itchy bumps.

HOME CARE

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Wear pajamas with long sleeves and pant legs.

  • Call a pest control expert. You may need to throw away your mattress. Ask the pest control expert what you can do to keep the bedbugs from coming back. You may need to:

  • Put a plastic cover over your mattress.

  • Wash your clothes and bedding in hot water. Dry them in a hot dryer. The temperature should be hotter than 120° F (48.9° C).

  • Vacuum all around your bed often.

  • Check all used furniture, bedding, or clothes for bedbugs before you bring them into your house.

  • Remove bird nests and bat perches around your home.

  • After you travel, check your clothes and luggage for bedbugs before you bring them into your house. If you find any bedbugs, throw those items away.
