Abdominal Pain

ExitCare ImageMany things can cause belly (abdominal) pain. Most times, the belly pain is not dangerous. The amount of belly pain does not tell how serious the problem may be. Many cases of belly pain can be watched and treated at home.

HOME CARE

  • Do not take medicines that help you go poop (laxatives) unless told to by your doctor.

  • Only take medicine as told by your doctor.

  • Eat or drink as told by your doctor. Your doctor will tell you if you should be on a special diet.

GET HELP RIGHT AWAY IF:

  • The pain does not go away.

  • You have a fever.

  • You keep throwing up (vomiting).

  • The pain changes and is only in the right or left part of the belly.

  • You have bloody or tarry looking poop.

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Understand these instructions.

  • Will watch your condition.

  • Will get help right away if you are not doing well or get worse.
